What would you do... 9/21/2010 10:50:07 AM My buddy was "tapped" from behind by a cager the other day...a girl driving with a BAD ATTITUDE taps him from behind because she doesn't like bikers? This happened to my good friend 3 days ago on his way to work. He rides a black HD Ultra, with custom flames painted on all panels, and is a really nice bike. He doesn't ride around looking like a gang-member, and is probably the most nicest, passive person I knew...and he "lost it" when she hit him. It started when he got cutoff by a minivan who turned in front of him in a turn lane, and he swerved around the driver to let her know what she did. He used some "colorful" vocabulary. She proceeded to inch further forward and actually bumped the back of the bike! "I got off the bike, looked at the back (ok no damage, she must have tapper the rubber fender bumper), and walked to her window and said to her "What the f*ck is wrong with you!!", she flipped me off and then I just lost it. I slammed my right fist down on her side view mirror of her minivan and the painted cap on it came off. At that point she put her hand up to signal she was sorry... I yelled "I don't want to die riding my bike because of a$$holes like you" and walked away and got back on the bike and continued riding to work.." My buddy called me to tell me about it from the side of the road because he had to stop due to being pretty shaken and upset over what "could have happened." He is a VERY accomplished rider, and rides with the #1 drill team in the country and performs all over the place. I think his actions were appropriate. What would you do?

He doesn't ride around looking like a gang-member, and is probably the most nicest, passive person I knew...and he "lost it" when she hit him.

I have avoided several mishaps because of my defensive handling of my bike and I'm fed up with cagers and the talking on cell phones , texting , reading mags and new papers , make up , dogs on laps , aggressive driving , getting cut off and in front of, speeding etc.......I have no mercy left for those in 4 or more wheels.! *******************************************************************************************************************************

No reaction by the rider changes the situation, and there is NO GOOD reaction. Plus you usually have no place to turn off. It's either gravel shoulders, or no shoulder or no cross roads or rain or all of the above. So, I find the first available place to pull off. And as they pass you see they are on the phone. *******************************************************************************************************************************

I've followed drivers a few times, and pointed out to them how they almost killed me ...they look just like a deer in your headlights! I've not lost my cool (yet), but always take the helmet with me (makes a great weapon if called upon or tool to do damage to a car if it comes down to that). Doing damage to someone's car or to the driver is not something I'd look to do, but something I could easily do in the "heat of the moment". A friend made a suggestion once....carry a few lug nuts in your coat pocket and drop one on the pavement if some follows too closely ("Gee, where did that nut come from? I guess a passing car must have thrown one up on that guy behind me!). *******************************************************************************************************************************
